Preventing Employee Burnout During the Holidays
Employee burnout can happen any time of the year, but it is especially prevalent during the holidays. Burnout occurs when employees have exhausted their physical, intellectual, and emotional energy but continue to be pushed to give more. The holidays bring with them increased social engagements and familial responsibilities that make it harder for employees to get the rest they need to recharge. Many industries also have year-end obligations which means employees stress levels are spiking both at work and at home.
Employee burnout results in decreased productivity and can also decrease workplace morale. Employers can take steps to prevent employee burnout, such as reducing workloads where possible, providing flexible schedules, encouraging rest time, and reminding employees of their importance to the company.
